Installing A WordPress Theme With cPanel

This is just a simple guide to installing WordPress themes with cPanel, the concepts can be used the same with other panels that are similar, such as VistaPanel.

How-to Install A WordPress Theme -

  1. Getting The Theme
Download your theme by clicking on the download link on whatever site you’re getting it from. You should download it to your desktop, that would be easiest to access. The file will be in .zip or .gzip format.
  2. Uploading The Theme
Now that you have your theme, you will need to goto your cPanel, from your cPanel you need to click “File Manager”. When you click “File Manager” a screen will pop-up asking you which folder you would like to goto or it will just forward you to the root directory of your site. You’re looking for the “public_html” folder in most cases.
  3. Find Your WordPress Folder
Some people have WordPress installed in their root directory, others have it in the default directory which is under a folder named “wordpress”. You’ll know you’re in the right folder if the file structure resembles the first picture below. You’re looking for the folder named “wp-content” When you find it, double click it to browse the folder. Once inside of that folder you will see the “themes” folder. Once you’ve found the themes folder you will see the default themes that come with wordpress, this is where you want to upload your new theme.
  4. Uploading & Activating Your New Theme
From the wordpress “themes” directory, click upload from your cPanel and select the file theme you previously saved on your desktop. Upload that file to the “themes” directory, after doing so you will see it in your file manager. Check it then select unzip (in same cases it maybe “unzip” or “decompress”).

All That Is Left Is Activating It In WordPress Admin!
